THE VAR HINTERLAND - THE GREEN PROVENCE

Enriched by the most typical landscapes and architectures of the Var, the Var Hinterland, also known as "Green Provence", is characterised by charming villages and towns that have preserved their authenticity.

In Green Provence, the towns and villages are part of the region's historical heritage. The villages of Saint-Maximin with its impressive basilica, Nans-les-Pins, a charming summer resort surrounded by pine trees and vineyards, and Saint-Zacharie with its sixteen fountains are in the Sainte-Baume district. In the Brignolais region, in Tourves and Vins-sur-Camary, you will find beautiful castles. A magnificent abbey in La Celle and a variety of interesting museums in Le Val.

There are plenty of historic villages in the Argens valley: Barjols, with its thirty fountains and twelve washing-places; Correns and Pontevès, built around their castles; Carcès, a beautifully restored medieval town; Châteauvert and its 17ᵉ century church. Montfort-sur-Argens is the only site in the Var to house a castle belonging to the Templar Order.

A synonym for unspoilt nature, a land of art and history, away from the summer tourist crowds on the sea coast: this is what the Green Provence stands for.
